Job Title:                Financial Institution Intern (Pathways Program)

Divisions:               Division of Risk Management Supervision (RMS) – Assesses financial institutions to determine the existence of unsafe and unsound practices, violations of law and regulation, the adequacy of internal controls/procedures.

Locations:              San Juan, PR

Duration:                Beginning Winter break 2017 and ending upon graduation. 

Upon successful completion of the program and skills assessment, some participants may be offered full-time [post-graduation] Financial Institution Specialist positions under the Corporate Employee Program (CEP). Note:  Conversion to a full-time position is not guaranteed.

Compensation:       Salary starts at $42,066 per annum.

Targeted Graduation Date:       December 2017 or later.

Duties:  The FDIC’s Financial Institution Intern Program provides high-performing college students with valuable professional experience in the financial regulatory industry. As a part of this elite federal agency, participants will gain knowledge of evolving issues faced by the banking industry.

The program provides an excellent opportunity for participants to gain hands-on experience evaluating bank operations, risk management strategies, and consumer protection practices. Interns will learn in-depth banking laws and regulatory procedures while working with experienced FDIC professionals to ensure institutions are following safe and sound banking practices. In this unique program, participants will have an opportunity to participate in on-site bank examinations. This requires team-orientated individuals with strong analytical and quantitative skills who possess the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Minimum Educational and Other Requirements:

Applicants must:

  1. Be a US Citizen residing in the San Juan, PR local commuting area;
  2. Be seeking a degree at an accredited college/university with a MAJOR in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, marketing, or other fields related to the position (Major must be documented in the transcript or proof of enrollment);
  3. Have at least a cumulative (overall) 0 GPA (requirement must be met before the announcement closes);
  4. Have completed two full academic years towards the degree (requirement must be met by the first day of employment);
  5. Have completed 3 semester hours in accounting (requirement must be met by the first day of employment);
